With the IND vs WI ODI six days away, five members of the India Cricket Team have reached Barbados. Sanju Samson had a gym session on Friday while Kuldeep Yadav, Umran Malik, Yuzvendra Chahal and Suryakumar Yadav had a day off after reaching Barbados on Thursday. However, vice-captain Hardik Pandya will reach Barbados in a day or two. They will have their own practice session in Barbados before Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and others from the Test team in Trinidad link up with them after the 2nd Test.
The three-match ODI series starts on July 27. This will be a prelude to Asia Cup 2023 even though several stars are missing. However, it will be a good opportunity for Ishan Kishan, Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal to prove their mettle before Asia Cup selection.
IND vs WI ODI crucial for Asia Cup hopefuls
The likes of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna could be back for Asia Cup. Hence, the three ODIs will be their last chance to impress selectors. Left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat also has a chance to vie for a spot.

However, it is a battle between two wicketkeepers. Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are filling in for Rishabh Pant. While Samson was not in the plans even a month ago, he has been brought back in the ODIs. As KL Rahul is making a comeback, Samson has a chance to cement the spot as a backup keeper even in World Cup.
As for Suryakumar Yadav, despite his exploits in T20s, he is yet to cement his spot in the ODIs. The likes of Ishan, Sanju and even Axar have done well in 50-over games. With KL Rahul still out, it is an opportunity for him to do well against a weaker opponent like West Indies.
India’s ODI squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar.
