Player revolt continues in Delhi, Nitish Rana & Dhruv Shorey seek NOC

Nitish Rana and Dhruv Shorey are in talks with other state associations for a move ahead of Ranji Trophy 2023-24.

PLayer revolt continues in Delhi. After being dropped unceremoneosuly, Nitish Rana has handed over a formal request to leave Delhi Cricket Team ahead of the upcoming domestic season. Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) dropped former captain Rana midway through Ranji Trophy season owing to poor performances. However, he is not alone, Dhruv Shorey has also asked for a no-objection certificate to leave Delhi.

Rana was unhappy with how things panned out last season. Officials in DDCA questioned his intent and commitment. They alleged that Nitish Rana was only focused on IPL and not on Delhi team. Furthermore, the rift inside Delhi team also spilled over in IPL with Hrithik Shokeen involved in an ugly spat with his Delhi teammate.

“Nitish Rana was exploring options after the last season ended. He wasn’t happy with the way he was dropped midway through last season and was on the lookout. He returned for the game against Mumbai and then made himself unavailable for the game against Hyderabad,” News18 qouted a DDCA source as saying.

The 31-year-old Dhruv was one of the mainstays in Delhi’s line-up in the Ranji Trophy last season, scoring 859 runs in 7 matches with an average of 95.44.

However, the lack of chances for Shorey in the shorter format of the game reportedly contributed to his decision to part ways with the DDCA.

“With regards to Dhruv, he was a red-ball asset for Delhi but wasn’t happy with opportunities in shorter formats. He still wants to play white ball cricket,” added the source.

With a young Yash Dhull leading the side, the DDCA has recently finalised the team for the Buchi Babu tournament Tamil Nadu Cricket Association revived the tournament after six years. The experienced duo of Dhruv and Nitish were both in contention to lead the team. But the formal requests for an NOC a day before the team was set to leave for the multi-day tournament have sent the Delhi cricket board in a state of disarray.
