PCB chief had to do a lot to convince Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh to side with them in the fight with BCCI. But the bone of contention is Pakistan’s hosting rights for BCCI.

The Indian board is adamant that the entire tournament must be moved out of Pakistan. However, Pakistan are not bowing down to BCCI’s pressure either.

What is PCB’s Asia Cup 2023 Hybrid Model?

  • In the new hybrid model, the tournament will be played in two halves.
  • In the first phase, all nations except India will visit Pakistan and play 4 games.
  • The 2nd phase will have India’s matches at a neutral venue.
  • UAE and Sri Lanka are the two nations that are shortlisted.
  • But as BCCI, Bangladesh Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket are opposing UAE due to heat, the 2nd phase is likely to be played in Sri Lanka.
  • The neutral venue will also host the final even if India fail to qualify.
  • Once the ACC officially announces the hybrid model, the schedule will be announced at the end of June.

Like earlier PCB had threatened to boycott Asia Cup and World Cup 2023, it still stands. The stance is now more clear as the PCB has sent a clear message saying, if Asia Cup doesn’t happen in Pakistan, Babar Azam & Co will not participate in the tournament.

The fate of Pakistan’s participation in World Cup will also rest with the Pakistan government which is not a friend of Indian government.
