With 12 ODIs to go for World Cup 2023, there is no sign of Jasprit Bumrah playing a match. Recovering from a lower back stress fracture surgery, the premier pacer is at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. While he is missing the IND vs WI ODI series and is slated to return for IND vs IRE T20 series, India Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma is doubtful.

Ahead of the IND vs WI 1st ODI, Rohit Sharma asked for patience with Bumrah. As Jasprit Bumrah is returning after a long and serious injury layoff, Rohit said he is unsure whether the pacer will be travelling to Ireland.

“The amount of experience that Bumrah brings to the team is very important. He is returning after a big injury and I am not sure if he will travel to Ireland. We haven’t decided on that (Bumrah’s travel to Ireland),” Rohit Sharma said ahead of the 1st ODI.

Jasprit Bumrah is out since England tour in 2022 July. While he did come back and bowled 6 overs before T20 WC. It did not turn out well. The rushed return in September cost India and Bumrah dearly. He had to undergo surgery in New Zealand and missed a lot of action as his back injury resurfaced.

However, at the NCA, he has begun bowling 7-8 overs daily. While the selectors hope he plays in the IND vs IRE T20s, they are not taking any chance.

“If he gets to play matches it is good for us and we hope he gets more matches under his belt before the World Cup 2023. After returning from a big injury a player misses the match fitness and the match feeling. We will see in a month as to how many games he plays. It all depends on how much he has recovered. We are in constant touch with NCA and we are positive at this moment,” Rohit Sharma said.
