Good news for India cricket fans, KL Rahul’s injury recovery is going smoothly. On Friday, he posted a video on his social media page, showing a gym session. But it was also an indication of increasing intensity at the gym as KL Rahul eyes Asia Cup 2023 comeback. He also had a low-intensity batting practice at the NCA. Rahul is recovering from a thigh injury for which he had to go under the knife.
With Rahul set to be the designated keeper-batter in World Cup 2023, all eyes are on him to make a fast recovery.
KL Rahul India’s preferred WK
With Rishabh Pant still in the initial stages of recovery, he is out of World Cup plans. There comes KL Rahul. A batter who can bat in top order as well as middle-order and can also keep wickets, he is essential to India’s plans. He is going to be India’s preferred wicketkeeper even though Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are two other options.
“No, it’s not possible to get Rishabh back for World Cup. He needs time, more importantly, he needs longer time to get back in keeping role. Rahul is our designated keeper for ODIs and there are also Ishan and Sanju as backups,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport earlier this week.

Although the NCA and the BCCI wanted to have KL Rahul back for Ireland series, it seems unlikely. Rahul has just begun batting practice and is not close to full-match fitness. Hence, Asia Cup in September is the only tournament where Rahul can comeback fully fit. It will also serve as the prelude to World Cup. Rahul has been out since IPL.
“The idea was to have Rahul, Shreyas and Jasprit back for Ireland series. It would have helped them get back in the groove. But we are not sure yet if Shreyas and Rahul will be fit by then. We have time. We will see how they progress. They should be fit for Asia Cup if everything goes well. As for Jasprit, we are very hopeful he can come back for Ireland series,” the official added.
