IPL 2023: DC vs KKR – Is Jason Roy injured again? The English opener made a decent debut for Kolkata Knight Riders after coming in as a replacement for Shreyas Iyer. While he struggled with the bat on a slow surface against Delhi Capitals, scoring 39-ball 43, Roy seemed to limp during running between the wickets. As he hobbled, Sunil Gavaskar raised a valid question of whether all players coming in as a replacement should have a mandatory medical. It is a norm for every football transfer and Gavaskar wants that for IPL too. Follow Indian Premier League LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

Jason Roy had a calf problem during Pakistan Super League even though he slammed a century. He returned to England’s T20 side after missing out on the T20 World Cup berth due to a massive dip in form. But in form, he is now struggling with a calf injury.

“In football transfers, there is a mandatory medical for all players. He is coming as a substitute player. If he has a history of injury and had a calf issue in PSL, he should have had a medical before coming to IPL,” Sunil Gavaskar said during a commentary stint.

However, it’s just not Jason Roy. Sisanda Magala who came in as a replacement player for Kyle Jamieson also struggled with injury for Chennai Super Kings. The Protean pacer continues to be a miss for CSK as he recovers from split webbing.

Liam Livingstone returned to Punjab Kings Playing XI after missing out on the first five games as he continues his recovery from injury.

Currently, all contracted players need to furnish a fitness certificate before joining their respective franchises. However, those fitness tests are arranged by the players themselves and not the teams. Hence, a player can easily produce a fake fitness certificate and not undergo a medical. Sunil Gavaskar wants the system to change for replacement players so that a franchise doesn’t suffer.
