Delhi Capitals

In IPL 2023 the Delhi-based franchise has gone for a good mix of experience and youth. In the IPL mini-auction Delhi Capitals bought the services of veteran pacer Ishant Sharma. Along with Ishant they also bought David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, who will add a great deal of experience to the side. The Delhi franchise also picked up seasoned IPL campaigner Manish Pandey. They also bought hard-hitting South African Rilee Rossouw, England wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt, and the promising Bengal bowler Mukesh Kumar.

A horrific car accident in December last year, forced Rishabh Pant to be out of action for an indefinite period. Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals Sourav Ganguly and Head Coach Ricky Ponting said that his absence would be a huge loss to the team. Pant was appointed as the captain of the franchise in 2021. In his absence, Australia’s David Warner will lead the Capitals.

Talking about the wicketkeeping in the absence of Pant, probably Sarfaraz Khan will step into Pant’s shoes as wicketkeeper-batter. He has been in great form in the domestic circuit.

DC Squad: David Warner (C), Aman Khan, Anrich Nortje, Axar Patel, Chetan Sakariya, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kuldeep Yadav, Lalit Yadav, Lungisani Ngidi, Mitchell Marsh, Mustafizur Rahman, Pravin Dubey, Prithvi Shaw, Ripal Patel, Rovman Powell, Sarfaraz Khan, Syed Khaleel Ahmed, Vicky Ostwal, Yash Dhull, Rilee Rossouw, Manish Pandey, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Phil Salt.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Orange Army has released twelve players ahead of the auction for IPL 2023. In the auction, they decided to splurge on Harry Brook, for INR 13.25 Crore, and Mayank Agarwal, for INR 8.25 Crore. They also brought in two experienced international stars – Heinrich Klaasen, for INR 5.25 Crore, and Adil Rashid, for INR 2 Crore. Mayank Markande has been roped in to add to the spin department.

Last season’s batting coach, Brian Lara, has taken over the reins of the team from Tom Moody. Aiden Markram will lead the side with Kane Williamson being allowed to leave. With a new head coach as well as a new captain at the helm, Sunrisers Hyderabad will look for a change in fortunes this time around.

SRH Squad: Aiden Markram (C), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Glenn Phillips, Kartik Tyagi, Marco Jansen, Rahul Tripathi, T. Natarajan, Umran Malik, Washington Sundar, Mayank Dagar, Upendra Yadav, Sanvir Singh, Samarth Vyas, Vivrant Sharma, Mayank Markande, Adil Rashid, Heinrich Klaasen, Mayank Agarwal, Harry Brook

Chennai Super Kings

It’s time for the ‘Whistle Podu’ at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai as Thala MS Dhoni is back at the den. The Yellow Army will open their campaign against reigning champion Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on March 31. The 4-time champion will play their first home game on April 3 against Lucknow Super Giants.

CSK has started its training in Chennai. MS Dhoni has already shown a glimpse of how he is going to entertain the home crowd. Meanwhile, in the IPL 2023, CSK is powered by England’s Test captain and star all-rounder Ben Stokes. Moeen Ali has arrived in India and linked up with the squad and Ravindra Jadeja remains an integral part of the team.

The injury scare appears to have affected the franchise. Pacer Mukesh Choudhary would probably be sidelined for the majority of the competition due to an injury. But the good news is that Deepak Chahar has been attacking the nets with all of his might and is ready to go.

CSK also roped in NewZealand pacer Kyle Jamieson for Rs 1 crore in the mini-auction. But the Kiwi fast bowler was ruled out after suffering a back injury. CSK has signed South African pacer Sisanda Magala as his replacement.

CSK Squad: MS Dhoni (C), Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Dwaine Pretorius, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, Mitchell Santner, Moeen Ali, Mukesh Choudhary, Prashant Solanki, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Simarjeet Singh, Subhranshu Senapati, Tushar Deshpande, Bhagath Varma, Ajay Mandal, Kyle Jamieson, Nishant Sindhu, Shaik Rasheed, Ben Stokes, Ajinkya Rahane

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans had the perfect start to life in the Indian Premier League as they clinched the title in their debut season. Hardik Pandya led the team by example with his all-round performances. He will look to continue his previous season’s performance when GT will take on Chennai Super Kings in the first match of the new season. In IPL 2023 season, the focus will once again be on Pandya and the young superstar Shubman Gill, who has impressed everyone with his performances in all formats.

Shubman Gill is most likely to open the innings with Wriddhiman Saha. New joiner Kane Williamson will be the perfect fit for No. 3. This means Hardik Pandya will come at No. 4 and provide further strength to a middle-order that has explosive power hitters like David Miller and Rahul Tewatia.

In Rashid Khan, GT has a world-class spinner and an effective batter down the order. In the bowling department, R Sai Kishore is expected to be the other spin option, With the pace trio of Mohammed Shami, Alzarri Joseph, and Yash Dayal taking the onus of providing crucial breakthroughs.

GT Squad: Hardik Pandya (C), Rashid Khan, Abhinav Sadarangani, Alzarri Joseph, B. Sai Sudharsan, Darshan Nalkande, David Miller, Jayant Yadav, Matthew Wade, Mohammad Shami, Noor Ahmad, Pradeep Sangwan, R. Sai Kishore, Rahul Tewatia, Shubman Gill, Vijay Shankar, Wriddhiman Saha, Yash Dayal, Mohit Sharma, Joshua Little, Urvil Patel, Shivam Mavi, KS Bharat, Odean Smith, Kane Williamson

Kolkata Knight Riders

In IPL season 16, for KKR, Venkatesh Iyer should lead the team’s charge at the top. Litton Das or Rahmanullah Gurbaz could shoulder the responsibility with Iyer. Nitish Rana could fill up the number three spot and with Shreyas Iyer uncertain Russell could move up to number 4.

Sunil Narine, who has been KKR’s biggest weapon with the ball, has many times been promoted up the order. If we look at the bowling front, Umesh Yadav and Tim Southee are likely to spearhead the pace attack with Lockie Ferguson as backup. KKR will play their first match against Punjab Kings on April 1.

KKR’s captain Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss IPL 2023 due to an injury. The biggest question for KKR is their captaincy. Going by the players they have assembled after the auction Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan, and Nitish Rana are some of the forerunners.

KKR Squad: Shreyas Iyer (C), Andre Russell, Anukul Roy, Harshit Rana, Lockie Ferguson, Nitish Rana, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rinku Singh, Shardul Thakur, Sunil Narine, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, Shakib Al Hasan, Mandeep Singh, Litton Das, Kulwant Khejroliya, David Wiese, Suyash Sharma, Vaibhav Arora, N. Jagadeesan.

Lucknow Super Giants

The Lucknow Super Giants are all set to make their second appearance in the IPL. They relished a decent season in the previous edition of the lucrative tournament. However, the team was heavily reliant on their top order to get the runs whereas the middle order lacked the spark required to propel the side into scoring big.

Ahead of the new season, the management roped in players from the auction who could potentially create an impact and guide them to glory ahead of the next season. The franchise has roped in the likes of the West Indies hitters Nicholas Pooran at the auction for INR 16 crores.

LSG also acquired the services of the oldest player to feature in the auction, Amit Mishra, for a base price of INR 50 Lakh. Veteran pacer Jaydev Unadkat too is set to don the Lucknow jersey for the new season and the franchise will look to make the most of his experience.

LSG Squad: KL Rahul (C), Avesh Khan, Ayush Badoni, Deepak Hooda, K. Gowtham, Karan Sharma, Krunal Pandya, Kyle Mayers, Manan Vohra, Marcus Stoinis, Mark Wood, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Quinton De Kock, Ravi Bishnoi, Yudhvir Charak, Naveen-ul-Haq, Swapnil Singh, Prerak Mankad, Amit Mishra, Daniel Sams, Romario Shepherd, Yash Thakur, Jaydev Unadkat, Nicholas Pooran

Mumbai Indians

The franchise holds the record of winning the IPL trophy record five times. Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai will aim to extend their title-winning streak to six in the 2023 season of IPL. The franchise had a horrific season last year, winning just four out of 14 matches, and finished last in ten teams.

However, this time around Mumbai has roped in several star players. They acquired the services of Australia’s Tim David for INR 8.25 crore. The franchise then decided to break the bank for Australian all-rounder Cameron Green and roped him in for a whopping sum of INR 17.50 crore.

Indian captain Rohit will lead the batting charge of the Mumbai Indians. Besides Indian opener, Ishan Kishan and top-ranked T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav, MI’s world-class batting lineup will also feature youngsters Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis.

MI suffered a massive blow as pace ace Jasprit Bumrah and Australian pacer Jhye Richardson have been ruled out of the entire season. Mumbai Indians have not announced any replacement yet. England pacer Jofra Archer will be leading MI’s pace attack in the IPL 2023.

MI Squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Suryakumar Yadav, Akash Madhwal, Arjun Tendulkar, Dewald Brevis, Hrithik Shokeen, Ishan Kishan, Jason Behrendorff (T), Jasprit Bumrah, Jofra Archer, Kumar Kartikeya Singh, Mohd. Punjab Kings

In IPL 16 PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan will look to continue his stunning form from last season. He will also lead the batting with uncapped Matthew Short. With Liam Livingstone, Sikandar Raza, and Sam Curran in middle they have a well-balanced batting side.

The pace bowling attack will be spearheaded by Kagiso Rabada. He has been one of the most consistent foreign speedsters in IPL recently. Arshdeep Singh is another pace bowler in the squad. Meanwhile, Rahul Chahar may take the charge of the spin bowling attack.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings has announced the replacement of Jonny Bairstow, who is still recovering from an injury. PBKS has roped in uncapped Australian Matthew Short as Bairstow’s replacement. Punjab acquired the services of Short at his base price of INR 20 lakh.

PBKS Squad: Shikhar Dhawan (C), Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, Raj Angad Bawa, Prabhsimran Singh, Rishi Dhawan, Jitesh Sharma, Baltej Singh Dhanda, Atharva Taide, Liam Livingstone, Kagiso Rabada, Nathan Ellis, Bhanuka Rajapakse, Shivam Singh, Mohit Rathee, Vidwath Kaverappa, Matthew Short, Harpreet Bhatia, Sikandar Raza, Sam Curran.

Rajasthan Royals

RR’s main strength lies in their batting line-up. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler looks threatening. The team’s middle order will be led by Joe Root and skipper Sanju Samson with Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, and the talented Riyan Parag.

With the experienced Indian duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal and Australian Adam Zampa up their ranks, RR’s spin department looks quite strong. Barring Trent Boult, the pace attack looks ordinary. The onus would be on Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Sen, and West Indian Obed McCoy to deliver for the side.

The absence of Prasidh Krishna, who has been ruled out of the entire IPL due to a back stress fracture, has made things worse for the side. However, Rajasthan has announced Sandeep Sharma as a replacement for Prasidh Krishna.

RR Squad: Sanju Samson (C), Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, K.C Cariappa, Kuldeep Sen, Kuldip Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Obed Mccoy, Prasidh Krishna, R. Ashwin, Riyan Parag,, Shimron Hetmyer, Trent Boult, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuzvendra Chahal, Joe Root, Abdul P A, Akash Vashisht, Murugan Ashwin, KM Asif, Adam Zampa, Kunal Rathore, Donovan Ferreira, Jason Holder

Royal Challengers Bangalore

In IPL 2023, once again RCB will be led by South Africa’s Faf Du Plessis. RCB did not go for too many new buys at the auction. Although the franchise remained quiet in the initial stages of the auction, RCB then went on to sign England pacer Reece Topley for Rs. 1.90 crores. Topley joins a strong-pacing attack, which also includes the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Josh Hazlewood.

In the batting line-up, RCB boasts stars like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Finn Allen. They also have world-class all-rounders like Glenn Maxwell and Michael Bracewell. With Waning Hasaranga leading the spin bowling department and finishers like Dinesh Kartik, RCB this time is looking a well-balanced team.

RCB also acquired the services of England’s all-rounder Will Jacks for a whopping INR 3.20 crores. However, Will Jacks has been ruled out of the tournament. Bangalore has named Michael Bracewell as a replacement for Jacks.
