IPL 2023 Replacement: In a big blow to Royal Challengers Bangalore, top-order batter Rajat Patidar has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2023 owing to injuries. RCB meanwhile will ponder on a replacement for the seasoned Indian batter. The Red Army has not named a replacement for Patidar as yet. Earlier, Mumbai Indians finally announced Sandeep Warrier as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah. The big update from Delhi Capitals is that Bengal youngster Abhishek Porel is set to join as the replacement for Rishabh Pant. Earlier, Rajasthan Royals roped in Sandeep Sharma as Prasidh Krishna replacement. Punjab Kings signed Matthew Short for Jonny Bairstow who has failed to secure a NOC due to injury trouble. As many as 14 players are injured and several stars from South Africa, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will miss the first week of action. Although not yet clear, both England and Australia Test players will leave the IPL before playoffs owning to their national team commitments. While there won’t be any replacements for them, the ones who will miss the entire tournament will need able replacements.

Mumbai Indians: The worst hit in terms of pace department is Mumbai Indians. Their vice-captain and superstar Jasprit Bumrah is out of the tournament after a back surgery. The other one is Jhye Richardson. The Aussie quick too will miss out with a hamstring injury. With just 7 days left, MI are yet to announce any replacements.

Rajasthan Royals: With Prasidh Krishna sidelined with a long-term injury, RR have called up veteran Sandeep Sharma. He is with the RR camp going through trials. He is likely to replace Prasidh. But Obed McCoy could be the other one to miss out. RR have not announced a replacement for the Windies star yet.

Delhi Capitals: The biggest injury news is of Rishabh Pant. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter is still recovering from the horrific car accident. While he has begun walking, he is still some time away from resuming cricket. In the meantime, David Warner will lead DC but most importantly, the wicketkeeper position will be filled by Abhishek Porel.

Punjab Kings: Who can replace Jonny Bairstow? Perhaps, no one. But Punjab Kings have been dealt a massive blow with England & Wales Cricket Board refusing NOC for Bairstow, who is still recovering after a freak golfing accident. Punjab Kings have roped in Adelaide Striker’s Matthew Sort as a replacement.

Kolkata Knight Riders: The two-time IPL champions are in a tricky spot. KKR are yet to figure out whether captain Shreyas Iyer will miss the entire tournament or part of it. It is certain that Iyer is out of the initial phase of IPL 2023 with a back injury. However, if he goes for surgery, Iyer will miss the entire tournament. KKR are in talks with several players over a possible replacement but no decision has been made yet. They will wait for another week before taking a call.

KKR have also suffered an injury scare in Nitish Rana. However, it is unclear how severe the injury is. Rana suffered the injury during KKR’s practice.

Chennai Super Kings: While CSK have announced Sisanda Magala as a replacement for Kyle Jamieson, they are still sweating on left-arm seamer Mukesh Choudhary’s fitness. CSK will take a call on his fate this week.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: RCB have been dealt a double blow with Josh Hazlewood and Rajat Patidar both doubtful for entire campaign. Hazlewood is still in Australia and recovering from Achilles tendonitis while Patidar is at the NCA recovering from a heel injury. RCB will take a call on the duo after the start of the season as they await final injury assessment report. Patidar will undergo MRI scan on April 14 to determine his fate. RCB already lost Will Jacks due to injury with Michael Bracewell coming in as a replacement. Wanindu Hasaranga will also miss the firts two games with national team commitments.
