IPL 2023 LIVE Streaming: IPL 2023 has been a super hit in its first week. With free-for-all live streaming in 4K, JioCinema has eclipsed both IPL 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022 digital viewership records in the first week alone. As per JioCinema, it has managed 147 Crore video views in the first week. The numbers are are higher than what T20 WC and IPL 2022 managed the whole season. It was evident when 1.6 Cr viewers were glued to JioCinema for the opening GT vs CSK match. Overall, it has recorded a 60% jump in views per match with an average time-spend of 57 minutes. “These numbers are exceptional and evidence of the digital revolution sweeping through the country. Digital is targetable, addressable and interactive. Unlike legacy services, measurement on digital is based on the exact number of people who come in to watch and not based on subjective extrapolation from a small sample set. The landscape for content consumption has irrevocably moved to digital and JioCinema performance this week is the biggest evidence of it,” Viacom18 Sports CEO Anil Jayaraj said in a statement.
JioCinema set the tone with the season-opening clash between MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings and Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans. It achieved a peak concurrency of 1.6 Cr. In addition, JioCinema registered over 2.5 Cr downloads, a record for the most installed app in a single day.
“What we witnessed through the opening weekend of the TATA IPL 2023 is a testimony of the faith viewers have shown in JioCinema’s offerings to make the league more accessible, affordable, and in unique first-time cricket broadcast languages, including Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Oriya and Gujarati,” Jayaraj added.
The factor that has worked for JioCinema is its free model. Till last season, IPL was locked behind Disney+Hotstar’s paywall model. With free live streaming for all, JioCinema has recorded over 10 Cr new viewers and 5 Cr app downloads.
Also, for the first time, cricket is now live in 4K. Furthermore, the idea to tap local languages has been a super hit among fans. IPL is being live-streamed in 12 languages on JioCinema with Punjabi and Bhojpuri attracting a large number of viewers. JioCinema’s 16 unique feeds, hype mode, and multi-cam setup have also been a welcome change.
