There were tense moments, emotional moments and then some adorable moments at Indian Premier League 2023 final game between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. If MS Dhoni had Mitchell Santner’s baby daughter in his lap, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah met Dhoni’s daughter Ziva Dhoni on the sidelines of the chaotic final. It was a rollercoaster ride for the fans, two teams as well as officials. With rain playing spoilsport in Ahmedabad, the match which was supposed to end on May 28 extended to beyond 2 AM on May 30.
But thanks to dedication of the groundstaff, Gujarat Cricket Association officials and BCCI working with them closely, the thrilling match finally ended on a grand note.
With emotions slowly waning, families of the players caught after the final. Following the post-match presentation, it also gave Jay Shah an opportunity for a meet and greet with the players, especially MS Dhoni.
Jay Shah and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly worked closely in bringing back Dhoni as the mentor for India Cricket Team for T20 World Cup 2021.
As Shah and Dhoni share a great rapport, he took his time out to meet Dhoni’s daughter.
However, for Jay Shah, focus now shifts to Asia Cup 2023 as well as World Cup 2023.
Despite managing through the IPL 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium, the stadium still needs some work.
Leaking roof, absence of sub-air system and worst of all the ticketing system will be looked at.
Instead of physical tickets, the World Cup 2023 is expected to move to e-ticketing. As for revamp of Narendra Modi Stadium, it is also expected undergo some work to get it ready for the World Cup Final.
However, for Shah, the biggest task will be regarding Asia Cup. BCCI has opposed to the idea of having any match in Pakistan. While Sri Lanka is ready to host the tournament, as the Asian Cricket Council chief, Shah will have to take a call on whether any match is possible in Pakistan.
Should the tournament be moved out, it could have far-reaching repercussions including a potential Pakistan’s boycott of World Cup in India.
