BCCI invites tender for front jersey sponsor after Byju’s EXIT, unlikley by IND vs WI series

Last time, Byju's paid $35 million to secure a sponsorship deal for five years. Byju's, which had cut down on its branding, exited without completing the contract.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally begun proceedings for India Cricket Team front jersey sponsor. With Byju’s exiting the deal after the Australia series, Rohit Sharma & Co were left without a title sponsor. On Thursday, BCCI invited tender applications from interested business houses. However, the new deal is unlikely to be completed by the IND vs WI series.

That will force the team to play without any sponsorship. Last time, Byju’s paid $35 million to secure a sponsorship deal for five years. Byju’s, which had cut down on its branding, exited without completing the contract. BCCI also suffered a blow when PayTM also exited the deal and transferred the rights to MasterCard.

“The BCCI invites bids from reputed entities for acquiring the National Team Lead Sponsor rights,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a release.

The bid document is available to purchase for a non-refundable fee of Rs 5 lakh. The last date of purchase of the same is June 26. As the West Indies series begins on July 12, it is unlikely that Team India will have any front jersey sponsor for the tour.

“Any interested party wishing to submit a bid is required to purchase the ITT. However, only those satisfying the eligibility criteria set out in the ITT and subject to the other terms and conditions set out therein, shall be eligible to bid. It is clarified that merely purchasing the ITT does not entitle any person to bid,” Shah stated.

BCCI recently onboarded Adidas as the kit sponsor for a deal in the region of Rs 250 Crore. Adidas will be paying Rs 75 lakh per match for five years. BCCI will also bag Rs 10 Crore per year as royalty on the merchandising.
