BCCI Central Contracts: The Annual Player Contracts for Team India (Senior Men) for the 2022–2023 season were announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of action for almost six months, has remained under contract in the A+ category. Players in the A+ category will each receive Rs 7 crore. Fans, however, were not happy with this, as Twitter was flooded with comments from people who wanted his grade to be lowered given that he last played for India on September 25 in a T20I match against Australia. Bumrah has missed a number of domestic and international tournaments over the last few years due to reoccurring back issues. Due to the same last year, he was forced to withdraw from the T20 World Cup. He was had to take a break from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia earlier this year as well.

Bumrah was supposed to play again during the ODI series. Additional testing, however, indicated that the 29-year-old could require longer time to recuperate than expected and will be unable to play for the five-time champion Mumbai Indians in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
