The good days are here. even though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hardly come up with official updates on players’ fitness, it has made an exception. BCCI has provided a fitness update on Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer as well as Rishabh Pant. Bumrah, Prasidh, Rahul and Iyer are eying a comeback in Asia Cup 2023.

All the injured players are currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, undergoing rehab.

Jasprit Bumrah & Prasidh Krishna: Bumrah and Prasidh both had to undergo surgeries for lower back stress fractures. Both pacers have been out of action for nearly a year. But the good news is that with World Cup 2023 around, Prasidh’s return will be a huge boost for Team India. Bumrah is all set to return in Ireland series.

“The two fast bowlers are in the final stages of their rehab and are bowling with full intensity in the nets. The duo will now play some practice games, which the NCA will organise. The BCCI Medical Team is pleased with their progress and will make a final decision after assessing them following the practice games,” BCCI said in the statement.

KL Rahul & Shreyas Iyer: Similarly, Shreyas Iyer has been out since the Australia Test series. He missed the IPL as he also had to undergo back surgery. KL Rahul suffered a thigh injury during IPL 2023 and also had to go under the knife. Now, both batters are eying a return during Asia Cup 2023.

“They have resumed batting in the nets and are currently undergoing strength and fitness drills. The BCCI Medical Team is satisfied with their progress and will increase their intensity in terms of both skills and strength and conditioning in the coming days,” BCCI said in the injury update.

Rishabh Pant: In what is a curious case, there is exciting news around Rishabh Pant. The young wicketkeeper batter is recovering well following his ligament surgery. He sustained damage to right knee ligaments following a near-fatal crash on December 30. However, he is now progressing well. As per BCCI, he has resumed batting and light keeping drills at the NCA.

“He has made significant progress in his rehabilitation and has commenced batting as well as keeping in the nets. He is currently following a fitness programme designed for him which includes strength, flexibility and running,” BCCI said.
