CPL 2021 JAM vs SLK: Andre Russell, Migael Pretorius shine as Jamaica Tallawahs thrash Saint Lucia Kings by 120 runs – Jamaica Tallawahs’s explosive batsman Andre Russell’s fifty followed by Migael Pretorius’s four-wicket haul helped their side beat Saint Lucia Kings by 120 runs in the third match of the CPL 2021 here at the Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts on Friday.

Chasing a huge total of 256, Migael took two wickets in the first over to dent SLK’s run chase. He ended with the figures of 4/32. Chris Green and Man of the Match Russell picked 1 wicket each as well.

For SLK, Tim David scored 56 runs in just 28 balls with the help of eight boundaries and three sixes. He played with a strike rate of 200. It was his debut game in the CPL 2021. Chasing a huge total of 256, David’s fifty went in vain but this will give him a lot of confidence ahead of his IPL debut later this year. Wahab Riaz also played a little cameo in the end but it was not enough.

Earlier, Jamaica Tallawahs’s all-rounder Andre Russell scored the fastest fifty in the history of CPL to help his side post a mammoth total of 255/5 against Saint Lucia Kings here at the Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts in the third match of CPL 2021. Russell smashed four sixes in an over of the Wahab Riaz.

JAM’s openers Chadwick Walton and Kennar Lewis gave their sid a solid start by scoring 81 runs inside the powerplay. Walton scored 47 runs while Lewis hit 48 runs. Pakistan’s Haider Ali also scored 45 runs followed by captain Rovman Powell who scored 38 runs.

Batting at number five, Russell did not waste any time as he started smashing bowlers all over the park from the word go. He scored 50 runs in just 14 balls with the help of six sixes and three fours. He played with a strike rate of 357.14.

For SLK, Obed McCoy picked three wickets in an over to pull things back for his side but there was no support from the other end. Roston Chase also took two wickets while Kesrick Williams chipped in with one wicket.

Toss report

Saint Lucia Kings’ captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to field first against Jamaica Tallawahs in the third match of the CPL 2021 here at the Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts on Friday.

Teams:

Jamaica Tallawahs (Playing XI): Kennar Lewis, Chadwick Walton(w), Haider Ali, Rovman Powell(c), Shamarh Brooks, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Chris Green, Migael Pretorius, Veerasammy Permaul, Imran Khan

Saint Lucia Kings (Playing XI): Rahkeem Cornwall, Andre Fletcher(w), Faf du Plessis(c), Roston Chase, Mark Deyal, Tim David, Keemo Paul, Wahab Riaz, Usman Qadir, Obed McCoy, Kesrick Williams

Both team captains at the toss

Chadwick Walton – Not a bad toss to lose. The batting unit has to come to the party, the batsmen need to score runs consistently. We have Imad Wasim, but unfortunately he’ll not play today. Looks a bit tacky, but think the ball will come nicely onto the bat

Faf du Plessis – About 95% okay, but I am told I can play some cricket and so here I am. Big shoes to fill, we have some new guys in. Looking to bowl, not sure about the wicket, will look to restrict them to a low score

CPL 2021 JAM vs SLK Preview

The Jamaica Tallawahs will take on the St Lucia Kings in match three of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL T20). The game will be played at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts and will kick off at 7:30 PM IST on Friday, August 27. The game will see several IPL stars in action, headlined by KKR star Andre Russell and CSK’s Faf du Plessis.

Jamaica Tallawahs are dependent on Andre Rusell to perform, and a lot will depend on the all-rounders form this season. Their line-up is filled with heavy hitters and right-handers, which could cause them trouble against bowlers who take the ball away. Barring Russell, the side doesn’t boast enough international or T20 pedigree, and will need a little more than punching above their eight to finish in the playoff spot.

Saint Lucia have a new identity following their takeover by IPL 2021 franchise Punjab Kings. The Saint Lucia Kings reached the final last season under Darren Sammy, but the legendary West Indian captain has now joined the coaching staff. Faf du Plessis will lead the side which will miss Afghanistan trio Mohammad Nabi, Najibullah Zadran and Zahir Khan but have enough homegrown and overseas quality to make it to the knockouts.
