CPL 2021: IPL 2021 costliest player Chris Morris pulls out of CPL along with Delhi Capitals pacer Anrich Nortje – The Caribean Premier League (CPL T20) has announced re-jigged squads before they kick off later this month. The tournament will clash with Sri Lanka vs South Africa series, meaning the likes of Rassie van der Dussen, Anrich Nortje and Wanindu Hasaranga will be ruled. Among major absentees also includes Chris Morris, who opted out of CPL 2021 due to personal reasons.
Barbados Royals have opted against retaining Chris Morris for the upcoming CPL 2021 with the South African opting out of the tournament due to personal reasons. A first-round pick for the franchise, Morris has been out of favour with the national side and has been plying his trade in a variety of leagues across the globe. The veteran all-rounder is the costliest player in IPL history, where he features for the Rajasthan Royals, who recently took over the Barbados franchise. Subsequently, the CPL 2021 side have opted for New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips as a replacement.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals pacer Anrich Nortje will also miss out on CPL 2021 action with the tournament clashing with the series between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Nortje was drafted by St Kitts & Nevis Patriots along with fellow South African Rassie van der Dussen. He will be replaced by Netherlands’ Paul van Meekeren. Nortje did not feature in a single game for Delhi in Phase 1, but now back in the UAE, the South African will be expected to deliver in IPL 2021 Phase 2.
Meanwhile, Saint Lucia Kings have retained CSK star Faf du Plessis as their captain. One of the leading run-scorers in IPL 2021 Phase 1, du Plessis was ruled out of the Hundred following a concussion and it remains to be seen whether the veteran South African has made full recovery.
The CPL 2021 will be hosted entirely by Warner Park from August 26 to September 15. The 33-match tournament will allow fans to attend at up to 50% capacity of the 8,000-seat venue – as long as they show proof of vaccination to enter the stadium facility. Players, support staff, commentators and broadcast crew in the CPL bubble can move directly to the IPL bubble in the UAE.
