CPL 2021: Glenn Phillips 50 guides Royals to a 15-run win over Andre Russell’s Tallawahs – The Barbados Royals registered their first win of the tournament after they saw the back of Andre Russell backed Jamaica Tallawahs on Saturday. The Royals, who lost their first two games of CPL 2021, put in a performance of the highest order to return to winning ways at Warner Park. The Rajasthan Royals owned franchise had Glenn Phillips to thank, with the New Zealander scoring a scintillating half-century on Saturday to aid his team’s cause.
Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat first, and in a major change, Shai Hope returned to the top of the order for the Royals. The change worked wonders as Glenn Phillips in the middle order ensured that Barbados made the most of the conditions on offer, scoring a match-defining 50 to taken them to 161. The New Zealand wicket-keeper was ably supported by Raymon Reifer, who chipped in with a 31-run cameo in the end. As for the Tallawahs, Veersammy Permaul was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/15 in his quota of overs, while the likes of Migael Pretorius and Andre Russell went for runs.

Jamaica Tallawahs’ chase never got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Jamaica were reduced to 33/4 in the powerplay but Shamarh Brooks and Carlos Brathwaite rescued the team with a partnership. The duo could not kick on as the Royals kept things tight, before eventually settling for a 15-run loss. Reifer was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/31, with Mohammad Amir and Jason Holder also among the wickets on Saturday.
