Drought lasted more than 800 days – The 800 plus days of drought saw Pujara go through many ups and downs, Pujara scored a triple hundred against Karnataka in Ranji Trophy match. The 352-run ended up being his last in the pre-pandemic era. Pujara faced criticism of late and while he was still given opportunities at both national and international level.

Dropped from the national side – Pujara’s last hundred for India came in January 2019 during the Australian tour as he India famously won the Test series. A 193-run innings at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) was his last international ton for India, since then he has gone 48 innings without a ton for Team India. Pujara has since been dropped from the national side and faces an uphill task to return back to the national side.

In 226 First Class matches Pujara has scored more than 17000 runs at an average of 51. This includes 51 First Class hundreds. It took him 374 innings to score the ton of runs while he has 70 fifties. His best score of 352 runs came in January 2020 against Karnataka in a Ranji match.
Last series against South Africa – The series against South Africa turned out to be the final straw for Pujara as he was not considered for the home series against Sri Lanka. Pujara along with Ajinkya Rahane were dropped for the series, in what many believe was the last of Pujara and Rahane for the national team. Even before the South Africa series they were considered to be on borrowed time.
