‘Could’ve pushed for another three years but…’: Dinesh Karthik reveals why he retired from IPL

Currently, Karthik finds himself occupied with family events, which are proving a welcome distraction as he adjusts to retirement.

Dinesh Karthik, the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman who recently called curtains on his Indian Premier League (IPL) career, has shed light on the reasons behind his decision. Surprisingly, it wasn’t his physical fitness that pushed him towards retirement, but the ever-growing mental demands of the high-octane league.

He highlighted the recently introduced “Impact Player” rule as a factor that would have eased his workload, further emphasizing his physical readiness. “Touch wood, I have never missed a game because of an injury,” he added, proudly referencing his remarkable injury-free career spanning three decades.

However, the mental toll of the game proved a different story. “It was all about the mental side of things,” Dinesh Karthik confessed.
