Comedy of Errors! Ruturaj Gaikwad survives after miscommunication with Yashasvi Jaiswal

Ruturaj Gaikwad survived a horrendous run out call after miscommunication with batting partner Yashasvi Jaiswal in IND vs IRE 1st T20I

A real comedy of errors took place in the second over India’s batting innings in the IND vs IRE 1st T20I. Both Indian openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gauikwad had a scary moment, but in the end, both survived as Ireland missed a golden opportunity to strike an early blow to the opening pair for the Men in Blue.

It is quite natural that both the batters are relatively inexperienced and therefore their coordination will not be inch perfect. But the incident was nothing short of a comedy of errors.

Joshua Little bowled to Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second over of the second innings. A short ball goes on to hit the high pad of the destructive southpaw as the youngster dashes forward to take a run. The ball in the meantime has traveled to the short fine region to be picked by an Irish fielder.

Insidesport

It was the non-striker Ruturaj Gaikwad who called for the run. As Jaiswal continued to dash to reach the other end of the pitch, Gaikwad himself was in two minds and had a fumble as a horrified Indian bench saw two batters in the same end of the pitch.

But there was confusion among the Irish players who failed to take advantage of the situation. Gaikwad once again dashed towards the striker’s end as the fielder throws to the wicketkeeper. But amidst the confusion, Gaikwad reached his end safely as the vice-captain of the series heaved a big sigh of relief.

Coming to the match, India was tasked to chase 140 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, But it was the rain that played spoilsport. The game had to be stopped when the rain started pouring hard with India having made 47/2 at the end of 6.5 overs. But luckily India was safe in terms of the DRS level score. India who were 2 runs ahead, won the 1st encounter.
