Come spill some cash! IPL 2025 sees increased salary cap as each team now has ₹146 crore to spend

IPL 2025 Auction: Teams set to have a huge purse of ₹146 crore to spend with auction purse set at ₹120 crore to spill in the auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is already the biggest cash rich league in the world. And for the upcoming IPL Mega Auction, the auction purse has been increased. This subsequently means that total salary cap too has now increased. Adding more to the cap is now match fees which has become the new initiative of IPL 2025 as declared by the BCCI.

The auction purse for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction is now being set at ₹120 crore. This sees a substantial increase of ₹20 crore from last year. and ultimately, the total salary cap for this edition will be ₹146 crore. It will rise to ₹151 crore and ₹157 crore in 2026 and 2027 respectively.

Increased Salary purse for Teams

The Auction purse will now comprise of 3 different aspects – the auction purse + incremental performance pay + match fees. Along with the increased purse, there will be 6 retention spots for teams to keep their core intact ahead of the mega auction.

The controversial impact player rule too stays while the Right To Match (RTM) returns to the table. Interestingly, with 6 retention spots, teams will be able to keep their top players. But it will also see their auction purse to be depleted significantly.

From the auction purse of ₹120 crore, if any team decides to retain 5 players and an uncapped player, then the team will be spending ₹79 crore in retentions. This will see the side having just ₹41 crore left to play with in the auction.
