‘Collective effort’: Jaydev Unadkat, Aiden Markram reveal after SRH’s win over CSK

Aiden Markram and Jaydev Unadkat played a crucial role in SRH's win, with the former slamming a half-century and the latter conceding just 29 runs in 4 overs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday picked up their second win of IPL 2024 when they got the better of Chennai Super Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Aiden Markram and Jaydev Unadkat played a crucial role in SRH’s win, with the former slamming a half-century and the latter conceding just 29 runs in 4 overs while picking up the wicket. The duo shared their thoughts on the game after the tie.

Markram on being called ‘Sauce’ and importance of powerplays

Aiden Markram goes by the name ‘sauce’. On being asked the reason behind the nickname, Markram said, “I’m not sure to be honest. It sort of just stuck from a relatively young age at the start of my career. I had a friend and we called each other ‘sauce’ for some strange reason and it has stuck ever since.”

Markram also emphasized on the importance of getting of to a good start. “It was nice today to walk in at 3. Haven’t been in the powerplay for quite some time now so we wanted to take on the powerplay as a unit. Getting off to a great start, you get all the powerful momentum on your side,” he said.

Unadkat ‘adapting’ to situations

Unadkat, who picked up the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane, said his idea was to just stick to the plan.

It was about executing the plans well. Doesn’t matter what the surface it but what we did well today was bowling those hard lengths, sticking to the plans. Closing out the overs was important and the bowlers did really well. It was a collective effort and that’s why we were able to stop those runs in the middle overs,” he said.

In the era where bowlers go for a hammering more often than not, how does he keep his economy rate down?

As a bowler there is nothing simple at the moment to be honest. There have been a lot of high-scoring matches but that’s how you got to adapt to the situation. This year, specially with the batters going really hard, taking the pace off has been really working, but there can be times when you become predictable. However, to adapt to the situations well is what you learn in T20s. Pat being there has helped too. Him being a fast bowler, we’ve been very clear in our plans and that has helped,” Unadkat said.
