Chris Cairns Health Update: Good news, former New Zealand all rounder Chris Cairns off life support, recovering in Sydney Hospital

Chris Cairns Health Update – Cairns off Life Support: Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns is communicating with his family and has been taken off life support but remains hospitalised in Sydney. The 51-year-old had suffered a massive heart attack – resulting in an aortic dissection, a tear in the inner layer of the body’s main artery two weeks ago. He was then rushed to a Sydney hospital for emergency heart surgery last week and had been on life support since.

Chris Cairns Health update: Chris Cairns’ lawyer, Aaron Lloyd posted a statement revealing that Chris Cairns had been off life support and has been communicating with his family. The statement read, “I’m pleased to advise that Chris is off life support and has been able to communicate with his family from hospital in Sydney. He and his family are thankful for all of the support and well wishes from everyone, and for the privacy they have been afforded. They request that this continues as they focus on his recovery moving forward.”


Chris Cairns Health update: Chris Cairns has been living and working in Canberra with his wife Melanie and their children for several years. The 51-year-old is regarded as one of New Zealand’s great all-rounders, having played 62 tests and 215 one-day internationals between 1989 and 2006 for the Blackcaps. He currently was the chief executive of SmartSportz, a company specialising in virtual sport having had to rebuild his image following his 2015 trial, in which he was found of being not guilty.

Chris Cairns Health update: The New Zealand great had to be moved to Sydney as he failed to respond to any treatment despite multiple surgeries.  However, the situation has changed with Cairns off life support and communicating with his family which is a huge sigh of relief for his family and the cricketing community. Meanwhile, Cairns’ mother, Sue Wilson remained in Canberra and was reportedly unable to travel to Sydney to be at her son’s bedside due to Covid-19 restrictions in Australia. The
