Chennai blues: Captain Rohit fails twice, scores 6&5 in IND vs BAN Test

Rohit Sharma struggled in the first Test against Bangladesh, scoring just 6 and 5 in both innings.

India might have put on a spectacular show on Day 1 of the India vs Bangladesh first Test, but the struggles continue for Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Despite scoring a century in Test cricket before the IND vs BAN series, Rohit had a poor outing in the first Test against Bangladesh.

Rohit edged out on both occasions

Rohit Sharma experienced a double failure in the first Test. In Chennai, during the first innings, the captain faced 16 balls and managed to score just 6 runs before edging out, with Najmul Shanto taking his catch. In the second innings, Rohit failed again, dismissed in a similar fashion, scoring 5 runs off 7 balls.

Single digit scores in both the innings for the fourth time for Rohit Sharma

This is the fourth time, that Rohit Shamra has dismissed scoring single-digit numbers in both innings. His first such instance came in 2015 during the Galle Test against Sri Lanka, where he managed 9 and 4. Later that same year, in Delhi against South Africa, Rohit recorded scores of 1 and 0. Fast forward to 2023, he struggled again in Centurion, scoring 5 and 0 against South Africa. Most recently, in 2024, Rohit added another match to this list in the Chennai Test against Bangladesh, posting scores of 6 and 5.

The Bumrah show in IND vs BAN

Earlier, in Bangladesh’s first innings, Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant bowling helped India bowl out Bangladesh for 149 on Day 2 of the first Test in Chennai. Bumrah took four wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Akash Deep claimed two wickets each. Shakib Al Hasan was Bangladesh’s top scorer with 32 runs. India now hold a 227-run lead.
