Several big names including Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Rilee Rossouw and Bhanuka Rajapaksa were released from their respective franchises on Sunday. Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, all ten franchises have submitted the list of players as they start planning for the upcoming Indian Premier League. Let us take a look:
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) became the first team to announce their list of released players before the Indian Premier League 2024 auction. Amongst the big names, Ben Stokes, Dwaine Pretorius, and Kyle Jamieson have been released. In good news for CSK fans, their leader MS Dhoni is set to participate in IPL 2024.

Delhi Capitals
After having a torrid season in IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals released as many as 11 players from their camp including the likes of Rovman Powell, Philip Salt and Manish Pandey. As they look to overhaul, it’s still not clear whether Rishabh Pant will be back in a wicketkeeping role. But if he does, DC will have to go for some fast-bowling options having released most players.

Punjab Kings
In a surprising move, Punjab Kings have decided to let go of two power-hitters in Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Shahrukh Khan. However, the good news is that, PBKS are not looking for an overhaul. Instead, they look to plug in two big gaps left by Shahrukh and Rajapaksa.

The inaugural winners of the Indian Premier League have made a surprising decision to release Jason Holder. The all-rounder did struggle at RR last season. With Joe Root opting out of IPL 2024, he too has been released. Among other big names is Obed McCoy. Avesh Khan will likely take McCoy’s spot.

Sunrisers Hyderabad
After shelling heavy bucks on Harry Brook, SRH have decided to let go of the star English batter ahead of IPL 2024 auction. As a result, SRH have a decent purse of INR 34 crore heading to the IPL auction. Adil Rashid is the other player who is on the release list.

The two-time IPL champions, KKR have decided to release as many as 12 players from the roster. Among big names, Shardul Thakur, Tim Southee, and Lockie Ferguson will free up the purse. Both Bangladeshi star Litton Das and Shakib al Hasan are also out of the roster.

LSG have been one of the most dominant sides in the last two editions of the cash-rich league. But ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction, LSG have decided to go for a mini-overhaul of their pace attack.

Quashing all the rumours, Gujarat Titans managed to hold on to their skipper Hardik Pandya for IPL 2024 for now. With the trade window open until Dec 12, Hardik may still leave. However, GT have released the likes of Odean Smith, Alzarri Joseph and Yash Dayal.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians announced their list of retentions and released players. On expected lines, MI have released the express pacer Jofra Archer as he continues to struggle with injuries. The two Australian pacers Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith are also out apart from Chris Jordan.

Royal Challengers Bangalore:
In a very bold move, Royal Challengers Bangalore have released the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel. While Hasaranga is struggling with injury and could be unavailable for IPL, it’s still not sure why Hazlewood was let go. As for Harshal Patel, he did struggle with form last season.
But there is no clarity on why Michael Bracewell and David Wiley are also out.
