India vs Pakistan: Asian Champions Trophy – The Asian Champions Trophy 2023 is all set for the much awaited clash between India and Pakistan. The arch-rivals are set to face-off in the final round-robin match of the tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, 9th August 2023. Hosts India enter the contest after already booking a spot in the semifinal. The team led by Harmanpreet Singh is flying high at the top of the points table. With three wins and a draw from the four matches, the team currently have 10 points on the board. They are aiming to continue the unbeaten run ahead of the semifinal.
Pakistan however are still not assured of a spot in the last-four. The team is currently placed in the fourth spot on the points table with five points to their name. The young team led by Umar Bhutta enter the contest after clinching their first victory of the tournament against China.
Coach Muhammad Saqlain is wary of the challenge against India. “The challenge would be to get a good finish. What all the boys need to do is to execute our plans perfectly,” he said ahead of the clash.
India vs Pakistan – Head-to-Head
Over the years, the face-off between both the teams have produced memorable results. Pakistan have dominated the contest in the much earlier days. However since 2010, India has enjoyed an upperhand when both the teams meet. Overall out of 178 matches, Pakistan had won 82 matches, while India tasted success in 64 games. 32 matches between both the sides ended in a draw.
India and Pakistan last met at the Asia Cup in 2022. The contest ended in a 1-1 draw. This match was a memorable one for India’s Selvam Karthi, who made his debut in the match and also scored a goal. The local lad, playing in front of his home crowd will once again be eager to get on to the scoresheets against the Green Shirts.
In the Asian Champions Trophy, India and Pakistan have played against each other 10 times so far. India dominate the head-to-head record 6-2, while two matches ended up in draw.
When we look at the last-5 meetings, India had dominated completely. The Men in Blue won four matches prior to the draw at the Asia Cup, which was the last time when both the teams met. Playing in front of the home crowd, India will look to continue the dominance against a young Pakistan side when both the teams meet at the Asian Champions Trophy 2023.
