Chandigarh Municipal fines PCA Rs 1.1 Crore for illegal IPL advertisement boards

This incident serves as a reminder to organizations about the importance of adhering to advertising regulations. Obtaining proper permits and following placement guidelines is crucial to avoid hefty fines and potential legal repercussions.

The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has been hit with a hefty fine by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) for unauthorized advertising related to Indian Premier League (IPL 2024)matches.

Unapproved IPL flex boards prompt action

The MC identified multiple illegal flex boards and advertisements promoting upcoming IPL matches surrounding the I.S. Bindra Stadium in Mohali as per TOI. These unauthorized displays were erected along roadsides within Chandigarh city limits, violating advertising regulations.

Demand Notice and Show Cause Issued

In response to the violation, the MC issued a demand notice to the PCA, demanding a payment of ₹1.1 crore. The notice states that this amount represents the advertisement fee that should have been paid for lawful placements. The PCA has been given until April 30th to settle the payment.

Show Cause Notice to PCA

The MC has also issued a show-cause notice to the PCA president. This notice questions why criminal proceedings shouldn’t be initiated against the association for violating the Chandigarh Advertisement Control Order of 1952. The notice details specific clauses that were breached, including those related to obtaining permission for advertisement displays and restrictions on placements that obstruct drivers’ views.

Time for Response

The show-cause notice grants the PCA until April 30th to respond and justify their actions. Failure to settle the advertisement fee and provide a satisfactory explanation could lead to legal action against the PCA under the Chandigarh Advertisement Control Order.
