A former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman has warned the board to avoid putting up a fight against India over their unwillingness to travel for the Champions Trophy 2025.
Khalid Mahmood claimed that Pakistan’s Asian neighbours, including Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, could follow the footsteps of BCCI by refusing to send their sides to Pakistan. He claimed that this would be a non-profitable deal for both the PCB and the ICC.
Ex-Pakistan official warns PCB of India’s clout
Khalid advised Pakistan against adopting a tit for tat strategy against India, pointing out that they would be no match for their neighbours.
“India is the richest cricket board and carries a lot of clout. If they don’t send their team to Pakistan I foresee even countries like Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh following their path. This would basically reduce the Champions Trophy into a venture where revenues will take a hit, expenses will grow and profits would fall,” Khalid said, as per PTI.
Pakistan’s threats to India amid CT 2025 debate
While Pakistan has threated to skip the 2026 World Cup and has demanded a written proof from the BCCI, it remains to be seen what decision the ICC would take with respect to Champions Trophy 2025.
CT 2025 will be held between February and March, with three Pakistan cities set to host the marquee event. India and Pakistan, for nearly a decade now, have met only at ICC events and haven’t locked horns in a bilateral series.
