In a week filled with cricket controversies, Pakistan’s blind cricket team has delivered a moment of pure joy and national pride. Their stunning victory in the 4th Blind T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 came at a time when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is locked in a dispute with the ICC over the Champions Trophy.
Bouyant PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi
The team crushed Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the final, held at Multan Cricket Stadium. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi made a wholehearted gesture by awarding the team PKR 10 million and granting an additional PKR 20 million to the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council. It’s almost a total of 1 crore in terms of Indian currency.
During a special ceremony at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, Naqvi praised the team’s exceptional performance. “The victory of the blind cricket team is Pakistan’s victory,” he said, highlighting the team’s ability to bring pride to the nation despite challenges. “Our blind cricketers have brightened the country’s name on the global stage, and the entire nation rejoices in their exceptional success.”

The event was attended by cricket stars like Azhar Ali, Aamir Mir, and Wahab Riaz, who came together to celebrate the team’s remarkable achievement. Team captain Nisar Ali and PBCC Chairman Syed Sultan Shah were honoured for their leadership. While the PCB continues its back-and-forth with the ICC regarding the Champions Trophy, this blind cricket team has stolen the spotlight. It must be noted that the Indian government denied the Indian blind team to go to Pakistan for this T20 World Cup.
“The blind cricket team holds a special place in our hearts, and we are committed to supporting them fully. We hope their journey of victories continues to bring more joy and pride to the nation,” Naqvi added.
