India vs Bangladesh Match Report
In an enthralling start to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India triumphed over Bangladesh by six wickets in a captivating group stage match at the Dubai International Stadium. India chased down 229 runs in 46.4 overs to move to the second spot on the Points Table in Group A. New Zealand are on top with a better net run rate of +1.200. India have an NRR of +0.408.
Bangladesh’s Innings
Winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first, a decision that rapidly unravelled as the Indian bowlers displayed their dominance from the very beginning. Mohammed Shami was the standout performer, striking in the very first over by removing Soumya Sarkar for a duck. Then came Axar Patel who completely derailed Bangladesh’s batting line-up with two wickets in the 9th over. While Rohit Sharma’s dropped catch denied Axar a career-first hat-trick, it reduced Bangladesh to 35/5.
The early collapse could have easily derailed Bangladesh’s innings, but a commendable partnership emerged between Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali. Demonstrating resilience, the duo worked diligently to stabilize the innings. Hridoy was particularly impressive, displaying both patience and aggression, as he crafted a brilliant century (100 runs off 118 balls) that became the cornerstone of Bangladesh’s total. Ali backed him up with a valuable 68 runs. Together, they forged a record 154-run sixth-wicket partnership. That took Bangladesh to 228 runs in 49.4 overs.
India’s Chase
Chasing down 229 runs, India began their innings with a cautious yet determined approach. The target seemed achievable, and the batting line-up was keen to set the right tone for their campaign. Rohit Sharma commanded early on with a 36-ball 41-run knock. While India’s scoring rate dropped after Rohit was dismissed, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli added 43 runs off 77 balls to keep the chase on.
Shubman Gill emerged as the star of the chase, slamming a second consecutive ton in ODIs. He hit a series of well-timed boundaries, ensuring that India remained on track. Even though India faced a few setbacks with the dismissals of prominent players like Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel, Gill’s steady presence anchored the innings effectively. KL Rahul finished things off with a six as India chased down the target in 46.3 overs.
