Career might have gotten over: RP Singh makes a bold comment on Joe Root’s bizarre dismissal

Despite being England's best player, Root had scored just 52 runs prior to his 18-run knock in Rajkot.

What was Joe Root thinking? This is a question that several experts and commentators have been asking following his bizarre dismissal in the India vs England 3rd Test. Having already been going through a rough patch, the former English skipper decided to pull out a reverse ramp shot, and that too against his biggest nemesis, Jasprit Bumrah.

The shot isn’t new to Root but the timing and execution of it have left many scratching their heads. Having started the day with 207 runs on the board and eight wickets in hand, the experienced player decided to play the reverse ramp, but instead of finding the boundary, he found Yashasvi Jaiswal at second slip.

“The shot Joe Root played—if someone had played such a shot at domestic or club level, his career might have gotten over. He would have been asked to first correct things and come, as you can’t play like that,” former England bowler RP Singh said during a discussion on Colors Cineplex.

Following his dismissal, England lost their last 7 wickets for just 95 runs. With India on the ropes having already lost one bowler in Ravichandran Ashwin and having made just 52 runs in the series, one has to think that Root himself and the English management will not be impressed with his decision.
