Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma returned to T20Is but there was no sign of Shreyas Iyer in the India squad for the IND vs AFG T20 series. Instead, the selectors asked him to play Ranji Trophy to prepare for IND vs ENG Test series. The Indian batter has now broken his silence on the selection snub.
“See, right now I’m being in the present. I’ve finished the match which I was asked to play, I came, and I executed, so I’m happy with what I’m doing. Something that is not in my control, I can’t focus on that. Coming here and winning the match was my focus and that’s what we did today,” Shreyas Iyer was quoted by ESPNCricinfo on the sidelines of the Mumbai vs Andhra Ranji Trophy match.
Instead, Shreyas Iyer is now focusing on the IND vs ENG Test series. He returned to the Ranji Trophy after five years and hit a solid 48-ball 48. And not soon after he was dismissed, Iyer returned to the nets to polish his hitting skills.
“It’s important to take one match at a time, not think about a five-match Test series. The team is only for the first two games. The motto would be to perform in the first two games and then look forward to the rest of the games,” Iyer said.
