Punjab Kings on Thursday suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru to get knocked out of IPL 2024. PBKS were nowhere near their best during the game and lost by 60 runs in the end. Assistant coach Brad Haddin after the game blamed his team’s poor display on the field for the loss.
PBKS won the toss and chose to field first. RCB put on a big score of 241 runs courtesy of 92 runs from Orange Cap holder Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar’s 55-run innings. PBKS, in reply were bundled out for 181 runs.
Poor outing on the field
PBKS were poor on the field and dropped a number of chances. They dropped both Kohli and Patidar on 0. According to Brad Haddin, the missed chances cost PBKS the match.
“If you look at the game, we dropped two guys. One almost got a 100 and one got a 50, and we dropped them when they were both on a duck. That’s when the game was won or lost. There wasn’t much (difference) in the batting and bowling of both teams. The catches we put down cost us the game today,” Haddin said.
No Rabada
Kagiso Rabada didn’t feature today for PBKS and wasn’t seen on the ground. Haddin informed that the Proteas speedster was unwell.
“He was unwell today. He was at the hotel, didn’t come to the ground,” Haddin said.

Role of motivation after getting knocked out
PBKS still have two more games to go even though they have been knocked out of the competition. On being asked how tough would it be to motivate the players, Haddin said, “It shouldn’t be tough. This is one of the premier competitions of the world. It’s a great opportunity to show your skills. You just got to look at Shashank, what he has done in this tournament. They just got to take what happened personally and find a way to turn the results in our favour.”
