If not cricket, then what? Venkatesh Iyer has Plan B ready

In an exclusive interview to The Indian Express, Venkatesh Iyer stated that academics was his perfect “switch off” from cricket, noting that thinking about the game always added pressure on him. He said that while cricket cannot be played till 60 years of age, one would need education to excel in life. He added that being educated would help him make better decisions on field. Iyer has completed his MBA and is currently pursuing higher studies.

Academics can give me the perfect switch-off from the game. I don’t want to be thinking of the game all the time, it adds pressure. Being an educated person, it helps me make better decisions on the field as well. I want cricketers to educate themselves not just with cricketing knowledge, but general knowledge as well. If you can complete your graduation or post-graduation, you definitely should. I am pursuing my PhD (finance) now,” Venkatesh Iyer said.
