Shreyas Iyer, who is looking to make a comeback into India’s Test team, has not been very promising in recent red-ball outings. In his recent Duleep Trophy game for India D, he scored 9 runs in the first innings, although he made a decent 54 runs off 44 balls in the second. However, overall, he hasn’t inspired much hope. The right-handed batter is finding it difficult to make a significant impact. It will be interesting to see how things turn out for him and whether he can cement his spot in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
Can Shreyas Iyer Play in India vs Bangladesh?
If we assume India’s playing XI for the Bangladesh Test series, with Virat Kohli coming back, and Rishabh Pant almost certain to make his return, the only spot Shreyas Iyer can realistically target is the No. 5 position. However, his main competitor for that spot is KL Rahul, who also needs more game time after missing matches due to a knee injury following the first Test against England in January. How KL Rahul performs in the Duleep Trophy will be crucial, and if he does well, it will make Iyer’s chances even tougher.
India is set to begin their Test matches against Bangladesh, with the schedule will goes up to the WTC Final, if India qualify. Bangladesh, coming to India after a successful series against Pakistan, will be an interesting team to watch on Indian pitches.
