Can India drop from top spot of WTC Standings?

WTC Standings not secured! India Cricket Team & Rohit Sharma run huge risk of losing out on top spot of WTC Standings in case of any hiccup against Bangladesh

The India Cricket Team currently occupies the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) Standings. But with strange things happening in Test cricket, like Bangladesh beating Pakistan, things can change in a matter of minutes. This can [potentially see India dropping down from the top spot. Here we will see how India can lose their top spot in the WTC Standings.

India occupies the top spot and is closely followed behind by Australia. Meanwhile New Zealand and England are placed third and fourth in the list respectively. As things stand, India will take on Bangladesh and then the Kiwis before traveling to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Can Bangladesh stun India?

If normalcy is set to resume, then India would absolutely dominate Bangladesh in both the Test matches on home soil. However, should India go on to lose or draw a game, it will be Australia who will propel themselves forward ahead of India. England too is currently playing Sri Lanka and have won their 1st Test. Given England wins the next 2 matches, then the Three Lions will also be ready to pounce when the opportunity arises.

What will happen in WTC Standings?

  1. 1. India win both Test matches – Obviously India will retain the top spot, Australia remain second
  2. 2. India draw both Test matches – India drops to second spot, Australia on top
  3. 3. India win 1 Test, Draw the other – India remain in top with Australia second
  4. 4. India lose 1 Test, Draw the other – The tables turn, Australia on top, India second
  5. 5. India lose both Test matches – Australia on top, Bangladesh second, India third.

Therefore it safe to say that India has a chance of not remaining on the top spot of out of the 5 scenarios that can take place. Should India lose both the Test matches, then they will drop to the third spot. Meanwhile 2 draws or a solitary loss & draw can see Rohit Sharma and Co slipping to the second spot.
