Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif has mocked Babar Azam’s T20I batting and claimed that he can bowl a maiden over against the Pakistan skipper even today.
While talking on X space on Friday, Asif made some controversial statements on Pakistan skipper and also questioned the selection of Agha Salman.
“I can bowl a maiden over to Babar Azam in T20 cricket even today, he cannot hit the ball if you bowl good deliveries to him,” said Mohammad Asif.
Current World No. 1 ODI batter, Babar Azam, had a disappointing outing in Asia Cup 2023. The Pakistan skipper couldn’t contribute in big games against India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh.
Azam started the Asia Cup 2023 with a bang, scoring an impressive 151 runs against Nepal. However, as the tournament progressed, his performance saw a dip. In the Super 4 stage, he managed only 17, 10, and 29 runs against Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka, respectively, leading to Pakistan’s elimination from the tournament.
“Agha Salman, a waste of time”
The 40-year-old also questioned the selection of all-rounder Agha Salman and called the player, “a waste of time”.
Asif stated that Agha Salman only scores when Pakistan is already in a good position as a team.
“I don’t consider Agha Salman as a player, he’s a waste of time. Even I can score the number of runs he scores. He only scores when Pakistan has already scored a lot of runs as a team,” Asif said.
While talking about the current pace attack of Pakistan, the former Pakistani fast bowler called the World Cup bound pacers as “average”.
“The bowlers selected in the World Cup squads are average, there is no one special”, the 40-year-old said.
Notably, Pakistan has announced a 15-member squad for the World Cup, starting on October 5 in India.
