Cameron Green was “confirmed” as RCB’s 4th IPL 2025 retention after Kohli, Patidar & Dayal

Green scored 255 runs (31.87 average and 143.25 strike rate) and took 10 wickets (30.3 average and 8.61 economy) for RCB in IPL 2024.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) retained just three players for IPL 2025 season. Glenn Maxwell, Will Jacks, Mohammed Siraj and even captain Faf du Plessis couldn’t make the cut as Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal were named as the only deserving players to remain with RCB next season. But, there was one player that he would have liked to retain.

RCB’s 4th retention

Australian all-rounder, Cameron Green, would have made the cut reveals RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat. The tall Aussie was traded to RCB by the Mumbai Indians before the IPL 2024 season and although Green didn’t have the best of times at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, he would have been retained.

“There was one other player we certainly would have retained. That’s Cameron Green, but he’s unfortunately out of the IPL due to injury,” Mo Bobat said.

Injury rules Cameron Green out

Of course, the reason why RCB couldn’t retain Green was because he’s out injured. The 25-year-old had suffered a lower back injury during the England vs Australia ODI series. About two weeks ago, he underwent surgery and is expected to be ruled out for the next six months.

That means Green won’t be fit before the end of April. That rules him out of the ICC Champions Trophy and more than half of the IPL 2025 season. Naturally, he can’t be at his best moments after he’s fully recovered and can’t really come to Bengaluru. So, RCB chose not to take the risk and see what they could do at the IPL 2025 mega auction instead.
