In order to concentrate on his red ball skills before the Test series against India in the upcoming home summer, Australia’s all-rounder Cameron Green might be spared from white ball duties, according to coach Andrew McDonald. Prior to the current New Zealand test series, Green played Sheffield Shield cricket for Western Australia. He claimed that his red ball practice had prepared him for his match-winning 174 not out in the Wellington opener.
According to McDonald, Green might receive a similar preparation for the five-test series against India and be rested for the ODI and T20I matches against Pakistan that are slated to begin during the domestic summer.
“I’d like to probably err on the side of preparing him through red ball. We know how good a white-ball player he is so you put a priority on what it looks like next summer,” McDonald told reporters.
“The white-ball cricket’s important, but that test summer’s important, so I think with the results he’s had (at Wellington) he’ll probably come to us and say, ‘Can you give us a couple of Shield games before the first test against India?'” McDonald added.
At the Basin Reserve, Australia defeated the Black Caps by 172 runs, a margin of victory that nearly matched Green’s first innings century, his second hundred of his test career.
