Cameron Green at risk of missing IND vs AUS Test series if CA decides to take ‘surgery’ route

Cameron Green is at the risk of missing the entire IND vs AUS Test series if Cricket Australia's medical team decides to take the surgery option to cure the all-rounder's stress fracture

Australia cricket team all-rounder Cameron Green is likely to miss the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India if he needs to undergo a surgery. Green, who flew back home from the UK after complaining of back soreness, was already expected to play as a ‘pure batter’ in the IND vs AUS series that begins in late November. However, reports now suggest that Cricket Australia are mulling the option of surgery which would mean Green would be out of action for a considerable time.

Cameron Green in doubt for entire IND vs AUS BGT series

As per reports, Cricket Australia’s medical and high performance team is considering surgery as one of the option among other recovery plans. The all-rounder last suffered a stress fracture in 2019 and has a history of having four such ones in the past. Non-surgical options would mean Green would play only as a batter which leaves Australia to handle another headache when it comes to bowling options.

Green’s absence could however be a boon rather than a bane for Australia. His unavailability would allow the side to pick a specialist opener that they so desperately require since the departure of David Warner. Steve Smith hasn’t tasted much success in his new role as opener and has been facing increasing pressure to go back to playing at number 4. However, what will trouble Australia via Green’s absence is the lack of bowling option. Alongside Mitchell Marsh, Green was one of the primary all-rounders that Australia depend on with the ball.
