Calm down: Shubman Gill reveals why he asked Rishabh Pant to be calm

Shubman Gill recounts using old bar and Rishabh Pant's constant knocking on the willow to prompt him to ask Pant to Calm Down

The biggest highlight of the IND vs BAN 1st Test Day 3 was the incredible run stand between Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. Both the batters took the task to the opposition and helped India post a mammoth second innings total of 515 runs on the board. While both Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill plundered the opponent, Shubman Gill was once forced to ask Rishabh Pant to calm down.

Following the end of Day 3, Shubman Gill went on to reveal the conversations that he had with the southpaw. The dual centuries from both the batters helped India take the dominant position in the game. Interestingly, Shubman Gill revealed that he was using an old bat.

And as per their batting practice ritual, Rishabh Pant would often come and knock on his bat. But the Gill was worried, that the constant knocking of the willow can damage his own bat. This prompted Gill to ask an enthusiastic Rishabh Pant to calm down.

“I’m playing with a bat that I played against England. So my bat is quite old and Rishabh Pant was hitting my bat so hard. I was trying to save my bat, and if Pant didn’t middle the ball, he would say no, let’s do it again. I said bro, calm down,” said Shubman Gill at the press conference at end of Day 3.

Gill recounted that he was playing with the same bat that he used while playing against England earlier this year. And since by them the bat has become old, Gill was fearing that it doesn’t break. With Pant constantly knocking on his bat, Gill was prompted to ask his batting partner to calm down.
