Bumrah’s Champions Trophy participation depends on Kiwi doctor’s report, “miracle if he turns up 100% fit”: Report

Bumrah's reports will reportedly be shared with Dr Rowan Schouten and his participation in Champions Trophy will be based on the feedback the BCCI gets

Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in ICC Champions Trophy will depend on the feedback which will be provided by New Zealand doctor Rowen Schouten. The premium pacer, who is currently on a five-week rest period following the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is reportedly planned for a visit to the country based on his reports and feedback from the orthopedic surgeon. While Bumrah has been included in India’s squad for the marquee event, it remains to be seen if he will be 100% fit in time for the tournament that begins on February 19.

Will Bumrah play in Champions Trophy?

As per Times of India, the BCCI medical team is in touch with Dr Schouten and had also planned a visit for Bumrah to New Zealand which hasn’t happened yet. A BCCI source told the publication that the selectors knew it would be a “miracle if the pacer turns up 100% fit in the given timeline.” It is pertinent to point out that it was Dr Rowan who had operated on an injured Bumrah when he missed the T20 World Cup in 2022.

Further, the report claims that the BCCI medical team was due to evaluate Bumrah at the end of his “three-week offloading process” which concluded last week. The reports will be shared with the New Zealand doctor and the pacer’s travel will depend on the feedback they get. Further, the BCCI source told the publication that the selectors will be informed of his availability only when the entire process was completed.

The reports will be shared with the doctor in New Zealand. Sending Bumrah there will depend on the feedback. The board and Bumrah himself are not willing to push hard given his significance over a long period of time,” the source added.

It is pertinent to point out that while Bumrah has been named in the Champions Trophy squad, India can make changes to the side until February 12. Harshit Rana will play in IND vs ENG ODIs in place of Bumrah.
