Tilak Varma was dismissed in a weird fashion in ongoing India vs West Indies 5th T20I. After early dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal & Shubman Gill, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav took charge of India’s attack. After a quick firing innings, the 20-year-old southpaw was dismissed by a stunning catch from Roston Chase. But questions were raised if the catch was a bump catch or not?
SKY and Tilak Varma took the responsibility on their shoulders to carry India’s charge after both the openers departed cheaply. Tilak Varma slammed 3 fours and 2 huge sixes to register a blitz 27-run knock from just 18 deliveries.
But Varma’s innings were short-lived. A stunning catch from Roston Chase was enough to send the batter back into the pavilion. A full-pitched delivery from the Caribbean spinner caught Varma by surprise.
In a bid to go on the offense, Varma came forward and went for a drift shot to the long-off region. But a mistime from the batter saw the ball flying towards the bowler who dived a couple of yards to take a blinder of a catch.

Controversial Catch
Despite it being a stunning catch, it was controversial to say the very least. As Tilak Varma pressed forward to hit the ball, his bat hit the ground, and that raised suspicion of a bump catch. The DRS was however cleared that there was no bump and it was a clean hit from the back.
Another controversy arose during the catch by Roston Chase. A stunning one-handed catch saw the bowler diving but maintaining his arm position above the ground so that the ball doesn’t hit the ground.
Despite his short knock, Tilak Varma has been steller for the Men in Blue. He is now the second highest run getter in a T20I series against West Indies.
