Brothers in arms! Lasith Malinga meets ‘skipper’ Kumar Sangakkara ahead of MI vs RR clash

Malinga played 122 matches for the Mumbai Indians and then worked with Sangakkara as the bowling coach for the Rajasthan Royals from 2021 to 2023.

United by nationality, separated by franchise! Sri Lankan legends Lasith Malinga and Kumar Sangakkara have reunited once again. The two greats played together from 2004 to 2015 for the Sri Lanka cricket team and then worked together as coaches for the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

After playing for the Mumbai Indians from 2008 to 2019, Malinga joined RR as their bowling coach in 2021. Coincidentally, that’s when Kumar Sangakkara joined the team as well, as their Director of Cricket. The two worked together for the next two years and took the side to the IPL 2022 Final.

However, Malinga decided to join the Mumbai Indians as their bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Now, the duo will meet as rivals for the first time in many years on April 1 at the Wankhede Stadium during the Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals match.
