Nothing seems to be going India’s way in Brisbane and the weather is just adding to the woes of the Men in Blue. After early stumps was called on Day 3 due to incessant rain, Day 4 the contest is staring at a potential washout with 90% chance of rain on Tuesday. India are already in a perilous position in Brisbane, staring at a follow-on after yet another top-order collapse in the 1st innings.

90% chance of rain on Day 4 of IND vs AUS 3rd Test

As per Australian government’s Bureau of Meteorology, there is 90% chance of rain in Brisbane on Tuesday. Further, the forecast also predicts severe thunderstorms, with chances of heavy showers in the morning and afternoon. Should rain play spoilsport on Day 4, the game is all but over for Team India. While the contest was a must-win for Rohit Sharma and co. in order to keep their hopes of making it to their third consecutive WTC final alive, the weather gods have decided to favour the Aussies instead.

The rain-hit IND vs AUS 3rd Test began with the hosts batting first. Centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith steered Australia to a mammoth 445-run total in the 1st innings, putting India on the back foot. In fact, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss was heavily criticised by former cricketers.

In response, India‘s top-order continued to falter in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant failing to fire at the Gabba. Skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul stay unbeaten at the end of Day 3 as a frustrating day came to an early end, thanks to rain. Should this contest be washed out, given that there is 90% chance of rain with a forecast for a storm on Day 5, then India have no choice but to win the remaining two matches in order to fancy their chances of punching a ticket to Lord’s in 2025.
