‘Bring it home’ fans & experts urge Team India to end 10-year ICC trophy drought

‘Bring it home’ fans & experts urge Team India to end 10-year ICC trophy drought

India starts their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 8.

After the BCCI announced India’s 15-man squad for the World Cup 2023 on Tuesday, September 5, fans and former players urged Team India to break the 10-year ICC drought and bring the World Cup trophy back home. Skipper Rohit Sharma had hinted earlier that the squad for the World Cup will not be too dissimilar from the squad for the Asia Cup 2023. From the 18-man squad picked for the Asia Cup, Sanju Samson, Prasidh Krishna, and Tilak Varma miss out, while the others retain their spot.

Sanju & Chahal unlucky to miss out?

However, all of the responses to India’s squad for the World Cup 2023 were not positive. Fans and even former cricketers questioned the exclusion of players like Yuzvendra Chahal, Shikhar Dhawan, and Sanju Samson.

Out of all the players who missed out on the World Cup 2023 berth, fans felt that Sanju Samson was undone by the BCCI and the Indian management. Samson has a short but incredible career as an ODI batter. The Kerala cricketer made his debut in the 50-over format two years ago and has played just 13 matches so far.

The two batters whom Samson was fighting with for a place in the XI, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, have played more matches than him despite averaging less than him. It is not hard to imagine that his fans feel that BCCI Samson has been treated unfairly, despite experts considering him one of the finest white-ball batters in the world.
