Legendary West Indian batsman Brian Lara has weighed in on India’s chances at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, offering a mixed perspective. While acknowledging India’s formidable squad boasting a wealth of experience, Lara pinpointed a crucial area for improvement: their performance in high-pressure situations.
A repeat of ODI World Cup 2023?
Lara’s comments highlighted India’s dominance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where they remained undefeated throughout the tournament but faltered in the final against Australia. This, according to Lara, points towards a strategic weakness when the pressure mounts. “Just looking from the outside, the previous cups be it in T20s, be it in 50 overs, I just feel that they (India) lack that final plan,” Lara said to Star Sports.
“Doesn’t matter how many superstars you have, it about plan on how you gonna go about. What plans are you going to have in place? How are you gonna structure your innings. I believe Rahul Dravid gets his player to work on a certain plan to win the Cup.”
