It’s going to be a fiesta! Rohit Sharma’s Indian cricket team will land in Delhi on July 4 early in the morning and receive Kings treatment. The T20 World Cup winners will start the celebration by joining Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, for breakfast at his home, PMO. They are returning home on a special charter plane from Barbados as they try to evade Hurricane Beryl.
“The Prime Minister has organized a reception for the team at his residence at 11 AM,” said BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla. Fatigued from a month-long T20 World Cup that took them to 6 venues in the USA and Caribbean, Team India will jet off to Mumbai after spending time with the Prime Minister.
Then, they’ll commence a 2-km victory lap from the National Centre for Performing Arts (NPCA) at 5 PM IST to Wankhede Stadium. Just like after winning the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, the celebration will see the whole team perform a victory parade in an open-top bus. Upon reaching the stadium, there’ll be a small ceremony for the Indian team.
PM Modi to have breakfast with Champions
“The players are tired and are mentally fatigued. That is why it was decided to have short open-top bus parade from NCPA, Nariman Point, to Wankhede Stadium which is not more than 2 kilometers followed by prize distribution, where the Rs 125 crore prize money will be distributed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah,” a BCCI source told Indian Express.
“But if you look outside the window, neeche sab sannata hai (it’s all quiet here), everyone has gone home after the game. There is no one here (Barbados); probably, once we reach India, kya mahoul hoga (the atmosphere will be crazy), we will feel there only. I can see from here that the whole of India is celebrating; everyone is on the streets,” he added.
