BPL 2025 approaching, Bangladesh Premier League yet to pay foreign players in full for 2024 season

BPL 2025 will start on December 30 with the final being played on February 7, 2025.

In little over a month, the Bangladesh Premier League‘s (BPL) 2025 season will commence. Yet, foreign players haven’t been paid their dues for the previous season. The World Cricketers’ Association (WCA), the global players body in cricket, has written a letter to the BPL, urging them to settle payments for 15 players who participated in the league.

According to Cricbuzz, around $350000 (Rs 2.9 crore) worth of payment is yet to be settled. One team, who won’t be participating in the BPL 2025 edition, owes around $100,000 (Rs 84 lakh), while the rest combined owe the remaining sum. The team in question could be one of the Comilla Victorians, Chattogram Challengers, or Durdanto Dhaka, who participated in the last season but won’t be there for the 11th edition of the league.

A significant number of late and non-payment issues have been reported to us with respect to the last BPL event, and most of them remain outstanding. This is a broader ongoing issue across our whole sport and it is disappointing these issues continue to be reported. We continue to urge the game’s leadership to step in and ensure they are resolved and the players are paid what they are owed urgently,” WCA cheif executive Tom Moffat told Cricbuzz.

BPL, CWAB respond

“That issue has been addressed and the process has started. It is handled by the CEO and he can give you the correct answer but that issue has been addressed and work is in place to solve it,” BPL governing council member secretary Nazmul Abedin told Cricbuzz.

“There are three cricketers from three franchises that still did not get their payment but we are hoping they will also get back their payment soon,” Debabrata Paul who’s part of WCA and Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) told Cricbuzz.
