The Boxing Day Test action can’t get any better. The fourth India vs Australia Test has ebbed and flowed like anything. The first two days saw some dominance by the Pat Cummins-led side before Nitish Kumar Reddy had his coming of age moment. He forced everyone at MCG to stand on their feet by smashing a match-changing century, his maiden, with some delight.
The Indian bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah, backed it up with a show of resurgence. Bumrah was simply unplayable once again, rolling his arm over nine different spells. He almost completed yet another fifer but it turned out to be no-ball. Regardless, the striking moment was the surprising 10th-wicket partnership between Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland.
India’s bowlers created a lot of opportunities, including a caught and bowled chance by Siraj which went down. Yashashvi Jaiswal dropped three catches. Towards the tail end of Australia’s innings, batters troubled India. Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon played it hard. However, the pressure from Australia slowly increased when Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon slowly had a half-century partnership crossing the target of 300 plus runs.
Toughest task awaits Team India; need Rohit-Kohli to step up
Australia currently have 333 runs on the board. Even if India manage to rattle the Lyon-Boland stand without leaking a single run, they will have to script the biggest-ever run-chase at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The highest run-chase in the fourth innings at the venue is 332 by England, that too, back in 1928. For India, they have clinched just 3 of the 84 matches while chasing 300+ score.
While a mouth-watering Day 5 awaits, India would need their top-order to step up. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli need to hit their straps and delight the Indian fans. But what are the stats of all the Indian batters as far as the fourth innings record is concerned? Let’s look at below.
