The Rajasthan Royals will be without pace bowler Sandeep Sharma for their upcoming match against the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday in Jaipur, according to assistant coach Shane Bond. This comes after the Royals secured a convincing fourth consecutive victory against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Sandeep Sharma stop-start IPL 2024
Sandeep Sharma, a crucial member of the Rajasthan Royals’ bowling attack, has had a mixed start to the IPL 2024 season. He impressed in the opening match against Lucknow Super Giants, claiming a key wicket and conceding only 22 runs in his three overs.
However, his performance dipped in the second game against RCB, leaking 36 runs in four overs.
Shane Bond confirms Sandeep Sharma Injury
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Shane Bond addressed Sandeep Sharma’s absence. He revealed that Sharma is suffering from a minor niggle and is unlikely to be fit for the next match. However, Bond reassured fans that Sharma is on the road to recovery and will be back soon.
He acknowledged the challenges all teams face in managing player fitness throughout the long IPL season. However, Bond expressed confidence in the Royals’ bowling depth.
“We are just working through. He got a little niggle. Sandeep Sharma is unlikely for the next game but he is closer and closer (to comeback). If you look at all the teams, everyone is dealing with niggles, aches and pains all over the place. I think it’s one of the challenges trying to keep your team fit and firing around the park. Lucky for us we got good depth in our side. We will get Sandeep back soon from NCA adding to the depth of our bowling stocks. We do miss Sandeep Sharma, he has been such a good player for us in first couple of games.”
RR vs GT: Rajasthan Royals on winning streak
Despite the setback of Sandeep Sharma’s absence, the Royals remain focused on extending their winning streak. Their strong batting performance against RCB, with Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson leading the charge, showcased their offensive capabilities.
The Royals will be hoping to overcome Sandeep Sharma’s absence and continue their winning ways when they take on the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday.
